Why I Built OkieCLE: Because Oklahoma Law Isn't "Generic"

Origin story and passion project

In 2025, I wanted to avoid the the "December Scramble." An on-demand CLE provider advertised as "Oklahoma Approved" or "Oklahoma Specific, so I made the purchase. It was uneventful.

About halfway through, something was wrong.

The fifth speaker (just like the fourth, the third, the second and the first) was talking about general common law and federal trends. The speakers talked about law and practice in LA, New York, and Chicago. When it came to practice in Tulsa, OKC, and Lawton? Radio silence. I had paid for Oklahoma credit, but I wasn't learning Oklahoma law. The courses were OBA approved, but not Oklahoma law.

The Problem with "National" CLE

Big CLE platforms don't care about Oklahoma. They record a session in New York or Chicago and then apply for accreditation in 40 different states. While the ethics credits might translate, the substantive law often does not.

As Oklahoma attorneys, we deal with unique challenges, from specific procedural rules to our own distinct Evidence Code and civil procedure, and local rules. Learning "general" law doesn't just waste time—it doesn't serve our clients.

I know there are other lawyers like me, who actually want to learn. I don't want to break the bank, but I also don't mind spending a little extra to gain insights that will serve me in my law practice.
